On the 9th of January 2021, Jesse proposed to Kate on a small jetty overlooking the Blackwood River in Bridgetown. ”We didn’t think twice about getting married down south, as we absolutely love the south-west, and were so lucky to meet many amazing vendors that we knew would help make our day exactly what we were looking for. We thought a winter wedding in the south-west would look picturesque. Once we saw Edith Valley, we both knew it was the perfect location for us and absolutely fell in love with it!
We had a very intimate and relaxed wedding, with only our family members attending the ceremony at Edith Valley – where we were able to celebrate with them after the ceremony over a grazing platter and drinks. We then had some time on-site at Edith Valley to take photos out and about overlooking the paddocks and dam, before heading to Smalls Bar. Our Smalls Bar ‘Happily Ever After Party’ was quite casual, with a selection of food and drinks served throughout the night, while some of our beautiful engagement photos were displayed on the wall screens.
Our absolute stand-out memory was walking down the aisle to meet each other at the altar. It was such a special and emotional moment for us both and is one we will never forget. We are so grateful to have this moment so beautifully captured in our photos too, and experience those same feelings every time we look at the photos!

ADVICE FOR SOON-TO-BE WEDS Enjoy every moment of the wedding day, it goes so fast! I think part of what made us be able to do this was the amazing team of vendors that we are so grateful to have- this is definitely so important to get the right people! Every single vendor that was part of our wedding team was so beautiful and helpful and worked so hard behind the scenes to make sure everything was just right for us and exactly what we had hoped for. We are so grateful to them!
Place of Love photographer and filmmaker, Nic talked to us about her journey into becoming a professional photographer.
When did your love of photography begin?
My grandparents bought my first film camera for Christmas, and it became a prized possession! I was always the person with the camera at events. I still have many albums filled with images that I took from high school camps, and fun times I shared with friends. It was only fitting that I became referred to as “paparazzi,” by people who knew me, something my family still call me today.
How would you describe your style and what gear are you using?
I would describe my style as journalistic candid. I look for natural emotions, free flowing moments and genuine connections, and always aim to tell a story through my images. I shoot on two Canon R6 mirrorless camera bodies, and my favourite lenses are currently 35mm/50mm/85mm prime’s. My go to flash is the Godox V1 unit (it’s a little weapon), and my Hold-Fast double camera strap.
What sets our region apart?
On a world scale, we live in one of the most isolated, pristine places on the planet. The isolation defines our region, and the character of the people who live here. I am lucky enough to call Yallingup, “The Place of Love”, my permanent home.
Favourite time of day?
I love a beautiful sunset, so I would have to say late afternoon golden hour.
When you’re not behind the lens, where would we find you?
Yallingup Beach of course! Molloy Island, wake-boarding and skiing on the Blackwood River. Traveling north to remote locations and spending time with family and my beautiful friends.
